Restaurants I'll miss if I leave Indy
I like my food, but not as much as I like my local food. Here's what I can't live without:
-
1
Yats -
659 Massachusetts Ave. - Indianapolis (Downtown)
Report this commentThis is the place I don't know how I ever lived without. And trust me, if I ever move away, I'll find some way to get chili cheese etouffee shipped.

Naked Tchopstix -
6253 N. College Ave. - Indianapolis (Broad Ripple)
Report this commentTwo words: Playboy roll. It's a pricey roll ($13!), but man is it worth it. Crunchy, spicy and smoky flavors make this roll anything but culturally accurate, but it's so good, I don't care!

Two for $20: Goose the Market
Kate Johnson - July 23, 2008
Report this commentI thought this place was amazing, with its freshly made (and unique) sandwiches, and then I went into the basement. You won't fine a six-pack of Bud Light in this array of wines and beers. It's the place to go if you want to try something new: Jam smeared on a ham sandwich with birch beer and some burnt caramel gelato to finish it off? Mmmmm.

Donatos -
825 W. 10th St. - Indianapolis (Downtown)
Report this commentWhat? Did she just put a pizza chain on her playlist? Yes. Yes I did. And I'll tell you why: You can't get a pepperoni pizza like this anywhere. It's the stuff legends are made of, with the chewy (yet firm!) flat crust and the edge-to-edge crispy pepperoni. I take my pepperoni very seriously, and it's nice to know someone else in this country does, too.

Ram Restaurant and Brewery -
140 S. Illinois St. - Indianapolis (Downtown)
Report this commentThis is the restaurant I take all my out-of-towners to. And the restaurant I celebrate my birthday at. And, you know, Valentine's Day/Columbus Day/Rosh Hashana/etc... Whatever, so they know me by face there. The Big Horn Hefeweizen is, I'm convinced, the best beer in the city. Also try the chicken sandwiches. Any of them.

Abbey Coffee House -
825 N. Pennsylvania St. - Indianapolis (Downtown)
Report this commentComfy antique chairs? Yes. A dreamy ceiling of painted clouds? Check. The most creative menu in Indy? Got it. Vegan/Vegetarian/Carnivore/My dad-friendly? Oh yes. Let's face it: Where else in town can you bring your picky family to and they'll each find something they like? Mom can get the smoked salmon wrap. Dad can get something with beef. I can try something made to look like bacon, but it's actually tofu, even though I'm not a vegetarian. Added bonus: Now that the library isn't a horrendous construction eyesore, the view from the restaurant on N. Pennsylvania Avenue isn't half bad!
