Within the historic Athenaeum building lies the equally historic Athenaeum Theater. Built in 1890, the theater housed the Indiana Repertory Theatre from 1972 until 1980 and the American Cabaret Theatre from 1989 until 2009. The Athenaeum has a rich history and a bright future. Local theater events, along with critically acclaimed local and national productions have graced the stage. In addition to hosting their own events and programs, the Athenaeum is available for outside organizations to rent. Renters have the option to take advantage of the Rathskeller Restaurant catering and other rooms within the Athenaeum.
