This high-traffic shop established by Kristin Kohn, the Queen of Mass Ave. is Indys version of the famous Pop Deluxe shop in Madison, Wis. One part unique jewelry store and one part ultra-mod housewares store, Silver in the City is the place to find your sleek wine bottle holders, stylish tea towels and show-stopping pieces of jewelry, along with gifts for the people on your list who forever demand distinction.

Paul Kim, owner of Eye Candy, says accessorizing is "a very influential art that people use on a day-to-day basis." He keeps this philosophy in mind when he purchases the funky jewelry and accessories for his Mass Ave. shop, which opened in 2007. He also favors products made by Mother Earth, purchasing gemstones and silvers. While not hard-edged, the jewelry, scarves and handbags lend a trendy but polished look to any outfit. He describes his selections ($5 to $500) as "unique" but "not too overwhelming." "I like geometric shapes, I like round shapes."

Amanda Mauer Taflinger, founder of the INDIEana Handicraft Exchange, opened this contemporary craft boutique, gallery and teaching space featuring functional handmade goods with modern aesthetics and contemporary designs. The space, created in conjunction with designer Nikki Sutton of Level Interior, is a tasteful infusion of modern design with personal homelike touches. Find truly unique, mostly Midwestern-made clothing, jewelry, bath and body products, along with home decor and kitchen ware.

You gotta love a jewelry store that has a sense of style, sense of humor - and a big heart. On Mother's Day, Reis Nichols has been known to hire photographers to take pics of kids and pets that could be placed into lockets. For the Indy 500, the shop sold chic, elegant checkered flag necklaces and enameled cufflinks. And its charity-minded, too: When floods left thousands of Hoosiers in despair in 2008, Ries-Nichols raised more than $10,000 to help.
