For Hoosier palates: With a glass of juice on the side, the 10th Street Skillet is an example of the perpetual attraction of the "Indiana mix," in which all elements of the dish seem better when tasted together. (Gary Moore / The Indianapolis Star)
An icon of E. 10th St., the Historic Steer Inn still looks like a drive-in dive but its menu is a fun, jumbled mess of omelets, mimosas, and stuffed pizza. The walls are covered in east side bric-a-brac and Scecina memorabilia, making the Steer the kind of neighborhood restaurant that Applebee's wants to be.
