Indianapolis, IN 46225Neighborhood: Downtown
Nothing goes better with a normal hot dog than baseball and sunshine. We know that's a ways away, but just imagine the Indians, the sun and add a layer of gooey mustard running down your hands. Some things were just made to go together.
Mug-N-Bun Drive-In
5211 W. 10th St.
Speedway, IN 46224Neighborhood: West Indy
Mug-N-Bun employees are in the basement at 7 a.m. each morning crafting vats of syrup to serve up to 300 gallons of fresh root beer that day. The drive-in restaurant's root beer recipe remained a secret through an ownership change, and the menu remains largely unchanged. Loyal customers drive from all over the city for huge onion rings, tenderloin sandwiches and the Mug-N-Bun special: a bacon cheeseburger on toast. Don't be surprised if you see drivers speed over from the track to pick up a burger and root beer when the IRL or NASCAR is in town, but if you got a hankering for the Mug on race day, don't bother; they're closed.
