Oooooh, chile, I guar-ron-tee you ain't gonna get betta food than this for less money! Jambalaya, chili cheese etoufee, gumbo, beans and rice, whooooooooo-weeee! Yats cooks large quantities of a few dishes each day, and that's what you get to choose from. The food is so good that you'll never hear anyone complain about the limited choices - no matter what they have, you're gonna like it. Diners order at the counter. One dish for $5.50, a half and half plate of two different dishes for $6.50 and a soda for $1 more. Served over rice with a piece of garlic-buttered bread, Yats' dishes are an unprecedented convergence of high quality and low cost.

Naptown residents are more familiar with the other cajun/creole joint in town (it rhymes with 'Cats') but Papa Roux knows how to doux up Nawlins cuisine up right. The menu features heaping helpings of chili, etouffee, creole and red beans & rice, but the giant, sloppy Po'-Boy sammiches ($6.42-$11.47) are the star of the show.

Louis Stamatkin opened the Belmont Lunch sandwich shop in 1918 but the name was changed more than half a century ago. Now The Working Man's Friend, Stamatkin's people still run the place and it's still hoppin'. The Working Man's burgers inspire cultish loyalty and there aren't many places where you can wash down your meal with iced tea served in a mason jar.

I'm gonna go with a write in and say Famous Daves for this one... for $6.99 I can get Rib Tips, corn on the cob, baked beans, bread, and cornbread....
