In many ways Scotty’s Lakehouse is similar to his Brewhouse restaurants: stone tile interior, hand towels for napkins, big-screen TVs, music that’s too loud. But the burgers at the Lakehouse blow the Brewhouse grub out of the water.

Maybe that’s because owner Scotty Wise envisioned his sixth Indiana restaurant as green, locavore dining for the sports-bar set. The Lakehouse uses 70 to 80 percent locally sourced ingredients — Moody Farms for meat, Country Mouse City Mouse for the chimichurri ranch, Café Patachou for breakfast/brunch items, the Lakehouse homemade cupcakes. The beer selection is 95 percent Indiana brew. Plus, all table scraps are turned into compost and all to-go boxes are biodegradable.

Our trio of diners drooped over the 15 gourmet burger options ($8). Our server told us we could also choose the type of meat: elk, bison, beef, turkey, or veggie burger. The No. 3 called my name with its tempting fried egg, applewood-smoked bacon, Indiana smoked gouda, and chipotle ketchup. As I was chewing, I wondered why hadn’t I been eating egg on my burgers until just now? One of my burger buddies dubbed the No. 6 — topped with Maytag blue cheese coleslaw, French fries, and garlic mayo — “out of bounds” in the highest complimentary way (that one's shown here). The third in our group ordered turkey burger No. 12, draped in gouda, green apple slices, applewood-smoked bacon, and Sun King beer mustard.

We had to order a side of sweet potato fries with caramel and marshmallow for dipping, the Mac 2 (rotini pasta, balsamic caramelized onion, gouda, goat cheese and applewood smoked bacon, shown here) and house fries ($3, shown here) with their signature dipping sauces: chipotle ketchup, beer mustard and garlic mayo.

The dessert for the night was a giant s’more cupcake, and we washed it all down with Upland Wheat and Sun King’s Wee Mac Scottish Ale.

Wraps, salads and a long list of starters are available for those who do not fancy burgers.
