The crisp days of fall in Indiana yields some spectacular flavors, whether they be apples or milkshakes. Here are some of our seasonal favorites:
- South Bend Chocolate Company welcomes autumn with coffees and chocolates in fall flavors. Pumpkin pretzels ($8.99 for 14 ounces), pumpkin fudge ($12.99 a pound) and our favorite, pumpkin crunch ($9.99 a pound), sell at the company’s location on the Monument Circle, 20 N. Meridian St. Info: www.sbchocolate.com.
- Dairy Queen brings back its Pumpkin Pie Blizzard as October’s Blizzard of the Month. Made with Libby’s pumpkin pie mix and pieces of pie crust, blended with vanilla soft serve and topped with whipped cream and nutmeg, this Blizzard puts fall in a drinkable form.
- We stopped in at the Anderson Orchard, 369 E. Greencastle Road, Mooresville, for some apple picking. After an hour of pulling apples off trees, we whetted our whistles with apple cider slush — for only $1. Info: www.andersonorchards.com.
- The Best Chocolate in Town, 880 Massachusetts Ave., has pumpkin pie truffles (as well as maple walnut, pumpkin pie and pecan praline). Truffles are $1.75 to $1.95 each, depending on how many you buy. Info: www.bestchocolateintown.com.
- If you’re looking for more down-home, cooler-weather tastes, try Waterman’s Farm Market, 7010 E. Raymond St. There you can get breaded tenderloins, barbecued ribs and sandwiches, curly fries, funnel cakes, hot dogs and bratwurst, cheesecake, cookies, coffee and cider.
