When Indianapolis native David Letterman visited R Bistro for a pre-500-Mile Race dinner, chef/owner Regina Mehallick wanted to serve him a special dish. So she secured lamb testicles from her butcher. (Letterman reportedly took a bite or two.) Diners can always expect an adventure at R Bistro, known for its creative seasonal menu and its focus on using the fruits (and vegetables and meats) of Hoosier soil. As one diner noted, "Dining at R Bistro channels me spiritually to Chez Panisse in Berkeley, Calif.," so it's no surprise that when Slow Food USA President Joshua Viertel spoke in Indianapolis, he ate here. No word on whether he indulged in the sticky toffee bread pudding, but it's not to miss.
