The Tomlinson Tap Room made history when it opened in City Market in late 2010, becoming the first bar in the historic venue. Tomlinson is partially owned by a collective of Indiana breweries, and its 16 taps only serve Indiana-made beer.
Small breweries such as Big Woods (Nashville), Crown (Crown Point), and Power House (Columbus) are represented, as are the big guys like Three Floyds (Munster), Upland (Bloomington), and Sun King (Indianapolis) had unique beers on tap. Pints are about $5.50 to $7.50, and growlers are offered for carryout as well.
Great beers and a great atmosphere are its strong suits. Visibility issues, funky hours, and prices that are bit higher than expected are its weaknesses. But if Tomlinson keeps can keep special and hard-to-find beers on tap, craft beer fans will make the City Market’s mezzanine a regular stop.
