Ten bands the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame voters are in no 'Rush' to enshrine
If you want to know how befuddling the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s voting can be, ask Black Sabbath. The heavy metal pioneers had to wait over a decade before finally being inducted in 2006. (Artists are hall-eligible 25 years after the release of their debut recording.) Among the non-rock artists inducted before Sabbath: the Bee Gees, the O'Jays and Michael Jackson.
The 500 or so journalists, artists and music biz brass that vote on hall nominees have marginalized heavier acts in particular. Van Halen had to wait five years longer to be inducted than did bespectacled critical darling Elvis Costello. But as David Lee Roth once noted, “Music journalists like Elvis Costello because music journalists look like Elvis Costello.” We bet the following artists agree with Diamond Dave.—Matt Wake, Special to Metromix
