Get down with #OWS with tunes from Tom Morello, Thievery Corporation and...Miley Cyrus?
Galvanized by a mandate to redress economic and political inequality, Occupy Wall Street exploded into a global movement. And although its various tent cities were mostly forcibly removed late last year, the Occupy movement has regained its momentum with subsequent marches on Martin Luther King's holiday and Capitol Hill, with future protests planned for the World Economic Forum and beyond.
One compelling arm of the Occupy movement has been its artistic production, which has ranged from multimedia and comics to the protest music included on this list. From the expected to the highly unusual (WTF? Miley Cyrus?), Occupy's musical moments have remained a listenable corollary to the global movement's main thesis. Tune in, turn up, speak out.—Scott Thill, Special to Metromix
