Elton & Billy at Conseco Fieldhouse
For two gentlemen known for concise hits heard on radio during the 1970s, the program boasted plenty of stretching out. Joel performed relatively obscure "Zanzibar," which featured late Indianapolis trumpet great Freddie Hubbard on the original recording. It’s an example of Steely Dan-esque fractured jazz, and Joel’s current horn specialist, Carl Fischer, impressed. John, meanwhile, succumbed to pop-prog noodling during "Burn Down the Mission" and "Madman Across the Water."
