The Chicago native’s knack for melodic whistling helped keep the mood light, even when his lyrics were the opposite. Unfeeling “sociopaths,” for instance, populate “Oh No,” a selection from his current album, “Noble Beast.” Squirm-inducing humor popped up in “SweetMatter,” a song that considers animal organs eaten by people around the world: “That’s the taste of neurons blinking.” In this image, Bird takes off his shoes early in the performance.
