Meet five Indy DJs who turn the club scene around
Nightclub disc jockeys rule the scene by spinning hits for crowds of dancers.
Mixtape DJs win the affection of musicians by helping songs catch fire.
Battle DJs humble their peers by being the best at scratching and manipulating beats.
But "Destination DJ" may be best title of all.
When people flock to a DJ known for overseeing good times, a star is born.
DJ World, who’s affiliated with hit-making rapper Nelly, says he’s a tastemaker even on nights he’s not working the turntables.
"A lot of people call me just to see where I’m going to be," World says.
DJ Limelight, who appears every Friday at Blu Lounge, is serious about his role of facilitating fun.
"You can be someone that just plays records, or you can be someone that makes it an experience," Limelight says. "I don’t want to be the DJ that just plays records."
Meet World, Limelight and three more Indianapolis-based DJs who call the shots.
