There's no blubber on this third Whale album of savvy, stylistically shape-shifting indie-pop. Acclaimed in Canada, the Vancouver quintet could find new fans here with Mountain's rootsy sound, elastic enough to stretch from dance and rock to brassy cabaret and folk-pop. Lending warmth are blended harmonies and a nuanced use of electronics, distortion and horns.
