Rudy Kizer, 39. His claim to fame: Host of X103's "Hit the Decks," which showcases electronic and dance music. The show, broadcast Sundays in Indy, was just picked up in the UK via createradio.net.
In 15 words or fewer, I want the world to know...
dance music is more than hip-hop on the radio.
Where were you last weekend?
Preparing for the Paul van Dyke gig (at Talbott Street). I spent the evening before filtering through music and deciding what I wanted to take. I haven't seen a club night like that in Indy for years.
What song do you sing when no one else is around?
"Let's Stay Together," by Al Green. Not that I sing it well, but it's one of those tunes that constantly gets stuck in your head.
Where do you go to get away from your fans?
The gym. Or I'll take the dog for a walk in the park.
If you were mayor of this city, what one thing would you change?
I would like to see more of a focus on marketing the arts. That kind of stuff gets pushed to the side.
What outfit do you wish you'd never worn?
I've got a picture sitting at home ..... patent leather shoes and the short pants. Oh! The striped jacket. But, that was the '70s. I'm not saying it was all bad, but the chances of having a fashion disaster were high."
If you were to go to jail for life tomorrow, what's the last meal you'd eat in this town?
I'd get together with a bunch of friends and go to Fogo de Chao. They have parmesan-encrusted pork tenderloin there that is absolutely magificient.
If you could have a sleepover with any local band, who would it be?
Do Margot and the Nuclear So and So's count? And the Zero Boys, as well.
What's the next concert you want to go to?
The Fray (July 2) at White River. Electric Zoo is coming up on Labor Day weekend -- a big electronic music festival in New York. I'm hoping to get on the press access list for Rock the Bells in Chicago.
Indianapolis: Love it or leave it?
I love it, but at some point I'm going to have to leave. I really cut my teeth here. Indianapolis will always hold a special place in my heart.
