Pat McPherson doesn't go out of his way to get noticed. But fight fans might recognize the 40-year-old IMPD detective from a couple dozen appearances on pay per view and basic cable.
McPherson investigates financial crimes during the day, but he also lays down the law as the head trainer of the Integrated Fighting team and can be seen hanging over the side of the Octagon when team members Chris Lytle and Jake O'Brien compete in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

What's the best fight you've ever seen?
(Mirko) "Cro Cop" (Filipovic) vs. (Gabriel) Gonzaga sticks out because no one really knew what Gonzaga brought to the table. (Editor's note: Filipovic, feared for his head kicks, was felled by Gonzaga, known primarily for his grappling.)
What's weirder -- patrolling the Eastside in the middle of the night or hanging over the side of the (UFC) Octagon?
They're both surreal, but hanging off the side of the Octagon (is weirder) because very few people have a chance to do that. In martial arts, very few people get a chance to fight in front of 20,000 people.
Indianapolis -- love it or leave it?
You know, I've been all over the place. This is a beautiful city. I love it. It'd be nice if it had a beach and some mountains, but I wouldn't go anywhere else.
And in honor of the manly issue... is chivalry dead?
