Two of the most forward-thinking and hard-working MCs in Indianapolis dropped projects June 7. Grey Granite is back on the scene with his new release, “Play Fair,” and alpha.live has released “Soul Cinema.” Both projects are interesting to the neophyte and to those already familiar with their work. Both go outside their normal camps to reach for a new sound, adapting a one-artist/one-producer approach. Grey Granite connected with producer 90 Lbs to craft “Play Fair.” Alpha.live’s album is produced entirely by Soul Cinematik, whose work on this record is layered and awe-inspiring.
Both albums are reaching for something different and bigger than the typical fare, and both these cats have been steadily adding great music to their catalogs.
