You don't have to be a hottie to score on screen

Every once in a while, a movie romance comes around to challenge the Hollywood norm of casting impossibly attractive, self-assured stars. These rare love stories audaciously position geeky protagonists front-and-center in hopes of being more easily relatable to the average Joes in the audience. The latest, “She’s Out of My League,” casts Jay Baruchel—the nasally voiced, toothpick-thin comedic actor from “Knocked Up” and “Tropic Thunder”—as an unconventional romantic match for blonde British stunner Alice Eve (“Crossing Over”).
The movie, opening March 12, is primed to make any defiantly non-Clooney-esque guys out there wistfully think, “hey, that could happen to me!” As further encouragement, here’s a look back at past nerdy romantic heroes who found love without having to compromise their inherent dorkiness.
