Screenwriter Bert V. Royal on rewriting his originally hard-R script…
“At first I really felt it should be R, just because of the subject matter alone. When they said ‘we want to do it PG-13,’ [there was] minor grumbling on my part but not too much. Now, as we did it, I thought that was the smartest decision. Their mentality was ‘we want the people this movie’s about to be able to see it.’ I totally got it. Working with Will and trying to get the script to a PG-13 place was not as difficult as I thought it would be. We had to be a little more creative, I’m very liberal with my profanity.”
