Race has become an issue for The Hunger Games.

At issue is the casting of young actress Amandla Sternberg as Rue, Dayo Okeniyi as Thresh and Lenny Kravitz as Cinna. According to a Hunger Gamestumblr page that tracks tweets about the film, as well as Racialicious.com, racist sentiment first popped up in summer.

Complained one fan, "Why does rue have to be black not gonna lie kinda ruined the movie."

While Cinna's complexion isn't described in the novel, author Suzanne Collins describes the other two characters as both having "brown skin" and "dark skin."

Many of the Twitter accounts and tweets have since been deleted, according to Huffington Post. But not all. American Prospect writer Jamelle Bouie retweeted some that popped up as recently as two days ago.
