I am shy and awkward in social situations. There’s not enough whiskey in any bar to put me at ease for a night with a professional wingwoman, nor is any variation on speed-dating very appealing.
Quite the opposite: The mere idea is nerve-wracking. But that, the founders of Miss Pivot tell me, is precisely the point. The new business claims on its Web site that if you use its easygoing approach to meeting people, “dating will never be the same.” I’m not so much skeptical as I am anxious about it all.
