Best thing I ever ate, State Fair edition
Let’s be honest: The 1,500-pound cheese sculpture and Midway fashion show aside, the real reason to go to the Indiana State Fair is the food. Deep-fried, buttered, salted, barbecue-slathered, perched-on-a-stick, heaped-on-a-paper-plate, dribbling-down-your-chin food.
So, as our friends at Food Network (OK, maybe not “friends,” but we love their work) do with their addictive show “The Best Thing I Ever Ate,” we asked local foodies and other personalities to tell us about the best thing they ever ate at the state fair. We even talked to a few scheduled performers, since many have played fairs across the land. We’re glad we did — otherwise, who would have known Rick Springfield loves grilled corn so, so much? -- Jillian Mapes, Metromix
