Party celebrates Midwest style

A funny thing happens when you tell people that you write about style in Indianapolis. Usually, their reaction falls into one of two categories: The first involves eye rolling and a snarky comment, and the second is enthusiasm — something that Christy Pastore doesn’t lack.

As the creator and editor of Fashion Wrap Up, an online magazine and website, Pastore is working to build a following of Midwest fashionistas. The magazine, which launched only weeks ago, focuses on the style scene of Indianapolis and the Midwest, while the blog (a separate site) is driven more by the glitz and glam of Hollywood.

Pastore, an Indiana native who holds a degree in textile and apparel merchandising from Indiana State University, said she “sees no reason why Hoosiers can’t be more educated and cultured where style is concerned.” I’m a believer, but Milan wasn’t built in a day.

Pastore has no doubts. From 7 to 10 p.m. July 1, she will host a party to unveil her new website, www.fashionwrapup.com. This red-carpet event will be at the Historic Ambassador House & Heritage Gardens in Fishers and will feature designs by Argentinean designer and Midwest Fashion Week participant Gaby Couture. Photographers, makeup artists, models and musicians also are expected to attend.

The event’s sponsor, LadyLash Studios, will present its recently launched product, Luster Lash, to Indianapolis. Luster Lash, created by the husband-wife team and celebrity makeup artists Georgio and Mikaela Fernandez, promises to grow lashes without harsh chemicals.

“We’re so lucky to have LadyLash coming to the party,” Pastore said of the duo, featured recently on the “Today” show and in Self magazine. Whether you’re coming from Palm Beach or Beech Grove, Pastore says she is ready to show guests “a little Hoosier hospitality minus the country bumpkin.”
